European Bike Week Faaker See 2010 - Austria Sept. 7th

The 13th European Bike Week, Sept. 7 to 12 at Faaker See, Austria is expcted to live up to its reputation as the biggest free motorcycle rally in Europe. 

Once again, the Austrian region of Carinthia will come alive with the sound of V-Twins rumbling through its veins. There is a full music line-up on the main stage from Tuesday to Saturday, free demo rides and an even bigger customizer area.

Over 100,000 people will roll up to the shores of Lake Faak in Austria.

A Harley Davidson Europe run event, bike week attracts top Harley custom builders and parts manufacturers from across Europe.

This years line-up includes Zodiac, Walz Hardcore, Big Bear Wrecking Crew and Thunderbike alongside the official Harley range of bikes and merchandise.

There's also a smattering of AMD World Championship winners on display, including the stunning Garage 68 that won the freestyle class at the 2010 Sturgis AMD final.

This Month's Header

This month marks a couple of anniversaries.


Thirty five years ago, I bought my first motorcycle, a 1971 XLCH Sportster.


September 19, 1975. Downey, Ca. This photo wouldn't exist if it wasn't for my friend Zach Ananias. I was taking pictures the day I bought it when he happened to be driving by. Also, In the background is my first car, a '71 VW Super Beetle. In many ways, the Seventies, for better or worse was my era.

I therefore dedicate this month to First Rides and that great feeling you got when you took your first ride or finally got a bike of your own.

...and oh yeah... it's 2 years for the blog on the 8th.

Peter Lenz Crash

The death of 13-year-old motorcycle racer Peter Lenz yesterday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway raises the question: How young is too young for kids participating in inherently dangerous motorsports?


It is also sure to fuel debate over how motorsports sanctioning groups balance risk and entertainment when putting together programs (like Sunday’s races) that combine amateur and professional events.

Lenz was riding a warm-up lap at the Indianapolis track when he fell off his motorcycle and was run over by another competitor. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead a few hours later. Officials said the cause of death was blunt force trauma. Lenz had been getting ready for the day’s first race, an event for junior riders that was part of the run-up to a professional Moto GP race.
