Powered two wheelers (PTW) sales including motorcycles, mopeds and scooters dropped by 26.8 per cent compared to July 2008,as per figures released last week by the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI).
However the drop in sales is not in fact as bad as the raw figure suggests, because in July 2008 registrations were up by 22 per cent caused by the expected introduction of the new test later that year. If the figures are compared with July 2007 then the underlying market decline is only around 10 per cent.
The top selling bikes in July were both 125cc models – the Yamaha YZF R125 (255 units) and the Honda CBF 125M (226 units).
Ride safe.
