Nel 1946, l’ing. Giulio Cesare Carcano usò la sua genialità per progettare una nuova motocicletta le cui Linee Guida, come si direbbe adesso erano:
· Leggerezza
· Semplicità
· Ottima coppia
· Riduzione degli attriti.
Nacque così la Gambalunga
Il nome era dovuto alla corsa del motore, 90mm per 84mm di alesaggio, che si distingueva dai precedenti propulsori superquadri (82mm di corsa X 88mm di alesaggio) prodotti fino al 1921.
La moto era molto leggera, solo 125kg e questa caratteristica favoriva la sua proverbiale maneggevolezza.
Insieme ad altri modelli storici come il Dondolino, il Condor e l’Albatros, la Gambalunga fu sviluppata e venduta per numerosi piloti privati che grazie ad essa riuscirono ad imporsi in molte ed importanti competizioni fino al 1950.
Prodotta in ben 13 esemplari, ne rimangono ancora in vita almeno 7, il cui valore immagino essere inestimabile.
La produzione durò solo per 5 anni, ma la Gambalunga rimane uno dei pezzi più ricercati della storia della Moto italiana e a mio personalissimo avviso una moto dal fascino indiscutibile.

The name was due to the motor shaft, 90mm per 84mm bore, that was different from previous engines-square (82mm stroke X 88mm Bore) produced until 1921.
The bike was very light, just 125kg and this feature favored its perfect handling.
Along with other historical models such as the “Dondolino”, the “Condor” and the “Albatros”, the Gambalunga (it sounds like Long Leg) was developed and sold to many private pilots who were able to be succesful in many important competitions until 1950.
Produced in 13 examples, there are still alive at least 7, the value of which I imagine to be priceless.
The production lasted only for 5 years, but the Gambalunga is one of the most wanted model of the history of Italian motorcycles, and in my personal opinion a motorbike with an undeniable charm.Below is a short video
